Everyone loves to receive gifts. During birthdays, on special occasions, and especially at Christmas, we expect to be presented with tokens of love, endearment, and congratulations. From the child who gets the latest toy or gadget, to the adult who receives a performance bonus at work, we all know the joy that comes from being presented with precious and wonderful gifts.
During the Christmas season gift-purchasing and gift-giving increase dramatically as the tradition of exchanging gifts is engaged by most of society. The practice of giving gifts at Christmas is patterned after God’s gift of His Son, Jesus, for the sins of the world. In Jesus, we see the great love that God has for us, that He would give His only begotten Son. But Jesus gives to us as well and we should accept and appreciate the gifts that He has provided.
